Obituary for Mary Jo Snyder
- Mary Jo Snyder, age 90, died on Thursday, November 07, 2013 at her home in Smithville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 11, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville, OH 44677. Pastor Doug Zehr will be officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Smithville, OH Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013, 5-8 PM at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to Oak Grove Mennonite Church Memorial Fund, 7843 Smucker Rd.,Smithville, OH 44677 in her memory. Mary Jo was born November 1,1923 in Orrville to Noah Wilmer and Emma (Meyer) Schrock. After graduation from Smithville High School she attended Goshen College and Kent State University. She was a devoted teacher at Pleasant View School (North Lawrence), at Sterling Elementary, and at North School in Orrville. She married Harold W Snyder in 1946 and together they farmed near Smithville and raised their 4 children. He preceded her in death in 1979. Mary Jo was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, sang in the choir, served on commissions, and participated in Stephen ministries. She practiced her faith by serving others. Surviving are sons Sam (Bev) of Brighton, CO and Joe (Gail) of Smithville, and daughters Ellen (Howard) Nikkel of Maturin, Venezuela, and Carolyn (Elmer) Baer of Marshallville, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Pauline Snyder Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwight (llda Belle) Schrock, Glenn (Arlene) Schrock, N. Wilmer (Pauline) Schrock.
