Obituary for Homer Arthur Feikert
Homer Arthur Feikert, age 62, was called home to heaven on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the family farm near Smithville. Friends and family are invited to a causal time of remembering Homer on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 6 - 8 PM at the Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. As was his wish, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers friends may make a donation to the Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit, 1 Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308 in his memory. He was born November 12, 1950 at Smithville, Ohio, the son of Arthur and Jane (Barr ) Feikert. He married Susan Sommer Feikert and she survives. Homer was born and raised all his 62 years on the Feikert Homestead near Smithville, attending Smithville Schools, and graduating SHS. He was a strong hardworking and proud man, but was a farmer first and foremost, having helped with farming chores from an early age. Homer also was a forklift operator, driving most of his 33years in the workforce Homer pride himself in his life with his family. Surviving are his wife, Susan (Sommer) Feikert, son, Bill Feikert, and daughter Melanie Feikert all of Smithville, daughter and son-in law, Amy (Feikert) and Allen Ash and his pride and joy, grandson Caleb Ash of Dalton. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Ellen Feikert of Smithville, a sister and brother-in law Alice and Steve Marks of Wooster, a sister-in -law Sally (Sommer) McKenzie of Rittman and a brother-in-law Ned Mishler of Dalton and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, Arthur and Jane (Barr) Feikert, sister-in-law Sharon (Sommer) Mishler, his mother and father in law, Walter and Neva (Snyder) Sommer as well a many aunts, uncles and cousins. Homer was a very kind and giving man and given his life experiences, it was fitting that he was able to make anatomical organ donations to Life Bank.
