Obituary for Walter A. Hatt
Walter A. Hatt, loving husband and father, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 at Orrville Pointe Nursing Center in Orrville, Ohio where he had been a resident the past 5 years. . Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 2012, 11:00 AM at the Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. Rev. Randy Gehres will be officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, OH. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012, 1 Hr before services at the funeral home. In lieu of flower, the family suggests that friends may make a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd.,Wooster, OH 44691 or the Christ United Church of Christ Memorial Fund 201 N. Main St.,Orrville, OH 44667 in his memory. Walter was born in Wadsworth to Albert and Edna (Sprunger) Hatt in 1915. He was the first Hatt born in America; His Father Albert emigrated From Switzerland just after turn of the century. Walter was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville where he served on various committees and assisted with driving elderly members to church on Sunday mornings. During the 60's he often drove the instrument truck that carried Orrville High School band equipment to football games. Walter loved working outdoors, enjoyed mowing lawns for neighbors and friends and keeping a vegetable garden until he was 88. Walter retired from C.S.Snyder & Sons in 1981 after 33 years. He was married to Dorothy Roth Hatt for nearly 65 years. Surviving are sons Robert and special friend, Sue LeMar, of Wooster, Donald (Iris) of Ashland; grandchildren: Debbie Chillious of Florida, Curtis Hatt and special friend, Theresa Morgan, of Wooster, Robbie Hatt of Florida, and Adrienne Schneeg (Garett) of North Carolina; a brother, Lloyd Hatt of Lethbridge, Canada, a sister, Irene Mahoney of Dellroy, sister-in-law, Edna Hatt of Massillon, and brother-in-law John Roth, Jr. (Eleanor) of Orrville; eight great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; 12 nieces and nephews, and 20 great-nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy (2006), grandson, Derek Hatt, granddaughter, Jennifer Hatt, great-grandson Michael Boley, brother, Roy Hatt, and in-laws, Elmer Mahoney and Henrietta Hatt.
