Obituary for Dorothy A. Schrock
Dorothy A. Schrock, age 90, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Dunlap Community Hospital in Orrville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011, 11:00 AM at the Smithville Mennonite Church, 6097 Akron Rd. Smithville. Pastors Herman Myers and Thomas Dunn will be officiating. Burial will be at the Smithville Mennonite Church Cemetery in Smithville, OH. Calling hours will be Thursday May 12, 2011 from 6 - 8 PM and one hour prior to services at Smithville Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends may make a donation to the Mennonite Disasters Service at 583 Airport Road, Lititz, PA 17543 to help recent tornado and flood victims. Specify for Dorothy Schrock Memorial. She was born October 25, 1920 at Dalton, Ohio, the daughter of Grover and Fairy (Amstutz) Gerber. She married David Junior Schrock on March 12,1949. He died September 27, 1978. Dorothy spent most of her life on the family farm in Sterling, more recently at Shady Lawn in Dalton. She was a member of Smithville Mennonite Church and recently attended Kidron Mennonite Church. She had various jobs as a cook and had numerous hobbies including spending time with family, gardening, quilting, cooking and baking, flower arranging, hospitality and providing transportation to those in need. Her other activities were Woman's Bible Study and Prayer Groups ,Aglow, Georgetown Homemakers Club, delivering for Meals on Wheels, 4-H advisor, women's sewing groups, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, voluntary Service (Elkhart, IN and Washington DC) and various jobs at MCC Connections. Surviving her are a son, Robert (Mary) Schrock of Sterling, daughters, Leah Bishop of Kidron, Rita (Peter) Sutter, Judy (Alan) Miller all of Apple Creek, and Hannah (Michael) Gehman of Dalton. Also surviving are a brother, Ellis (Edna) Gerber of Mt. Lake, MN and sisters Ruth Gerber and Celia Lehman, both of Dalton, 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. Preceding her in death are David Schrock (Spouse), Grover Gerber (Father), Fairy Gerber (Mother).
