Obituary for Robert E. ( Bob) Schwary
Robert (Bob) E. Schwary, age 91, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster,OH after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, 10:00 AM at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St. Smithville, OH. Pastor Pam Kelly will be officiating. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends may make a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northern Ohio Chapter, 23297 Commerce Park Road, Cleveland, OH 44122 in his memory. . He was born January 30, 1919 in Smithville, Ohio, the son of Edward and Erma (Pontius) Schwary. He and his family have resided in the Smithville-Wooster area for many generations dating back to the mid 1800's. Bob attended Smithville schools and graduated Smithville High School Class of 1937. He graduated from Case School of Applied Science with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1941 and Stevens Institute of Technology with a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. After graduating from Case, he went to work for Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical in Patterson, NJ where he met and married Adele Betty (Bauknecht) on June 3, 1944. Robert was a life member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Porsche Club of America. His other interests included traveling in Asia, Europe, and Australia; playing golf, including a hole in one and playing with Peter Porsche, and his beloved Porsche sports car, attending some 17 parades and one European Treffen. Surviving him are children, Linda S. (Richard) Bredt of Denver, CO, Robert A. Schwary of Bloomingdale, MI, Judith L. Schwary of East Lansing, MI, grandchildren, Timothy A, (Jannie) Howe, and Stephen A.Bredt and Jennifer A. Bredt, and great grandchildren, Landry and Carson Howe. Also surviving are several nieces and a nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Schwary, and daughter, Nancy D. Howe
