Obituary for Wendell G. Douglass
Wendell G. Douglass, age 85 passed away suddenly on June 4, 2018.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 07, 2018, 2:00 PM at the St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 7404 Coal Bank Road, Marshallville,OH. Rev. Lucas Merritt will be officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Cemetery near Marshallville, OH.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 5 to 7:00 pm at St. Michaels Church, Thursday, June 7, 2018, 1 Hr before services at the church. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to St. Michaels Church Memorial Fund, 7404 Coal Bank Road,Marshallville, OH 44645 or CAMO, 322 Westwood Avenue, Orrville, OH 44667 in his memory.
He was born April 24, 1933, to Glenn G. and Emma B. (Miller) Douglass. He graduated from Dalton High School in 1951. He was a lifelong resident of Baughman Twp. Wendell purchased his first dairy heifer at the age of 14, serving the dairy industry and operating Catalpadale Farms which later became Douglass & Weygandt, Inc. with his brother-in-law and later his son.
Wendell served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was an expert marksman. He enjoyed singing in the Chapel Choir of the USMC, the Orrville Community Choir, and the Men’s Mennonite Choir. He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and sang with the church choir many years.
He enjoyed traveling and hunting, horseback riding and golfing with his many friends and family. He was a steward of the land. His deep faith, love of family, and passion for farming will be remembered.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen (Weygandt), whom he married April 6, 1958; his children Catherine (Anthony) Pamer, John (Lois Hostetler), and Bethany (Duane) Horst. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren a sisters Marilyn Thompson, brothers Gerald (Jane) Douglass, Terry (Joanie) Douglass, and many nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents.
