Obituary for Jimmy M. Clay

Jimmy Mason Clay, age 74, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Autumnwood in Rittman, Ohio after a long history of illness.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022, 11:30 AM at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville. Dennis Clay will be officiating. Burial will be at Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman, OH with military honors immediately following services. Friends may call on the family Monday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home


Jimmy was born October 10th, 1948 in West Virginia to the late Golden Mason and

Freda Lorene (Dyer) Clay. He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon in the class of 1966. He studied psychology at the University of San Diego. Jimmy was PROUD of the time he spent serving his country in the Marine Corp. He was in The Vietnam War as a frontline gunner from 1968 – 1969 and suffered from PTSD. He was decorated with National Defense Service Metal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, The Vietnam Service Medal w/1*, The Good Conduct Medal, was honorably discharged, and transferred to the reserves until 1974 and was Our Hero.


He married Jill (Camp) on March 18th, 1982 and she survives. Jimmy was a PROUD Dad and Grandpa to his family; He was the Dad that he didn’t have to be. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, Nascar and watching football and was known to “just wanna go for a ride”.

In the winter months he loved vacationing in Florida and Cozumel, Mexico.


Surviving are daughters, Janet Bodager of Dalton, Jen (Dan) Kinney of Wisconsin. Also surviving are grandchildren Bethany (Patrick) Kessler of New Franklin, Mason (Jillian)

Kinney of Dalton, Kyle Bodager of Dalton and Margery “Maggie” Kinney of Wisconsin and greatGrandchildren Grace and Lincoln Kessler and his 3 puppies Pookie, Gunner and the Gracie. In addition his siblings Sheila Boggs, Dennis (Kelly) Clay, and Lisa (Russ) Patterson and along with many nieces and nephews also survive.


In addition to both parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Gary Boggs, a

nephew, Randy Tondola, and a niece Sarah Patterson.


His pride and dedication to God and our country will live on in those that remain. SemperFi
