Obituary for Letha C Shisler
North Lawrence- Letha C. Shisler, age 92, peacefully went to be with Jesus early in the morning of August 5, 2022.

Letha was born April 15, 1930 in Louisville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Daniel Schmucker and Ella (Schloneger) Schmucker. She was raised on the family dairy farm. She graduated from Louisville High School in 1947. She studied bookkeeping, and while working at the Borden Company in Canton met her future husband, Don. They were married on October 31, 1954 and moved to Wayne County. Together they managed a family farm in Baughman Township. She continued to manage and live on the farm even after Don’s passing in 2016.

Letha had many hobbies and was an avid gardener, food preservationist, and baker. She was famous for her pies and cookies. Her Dutch apple pie and home canned goods won many awards at the Wayne County Fair. She was a 4-H leader for many years, inspiring many young girls to learn and love sewing and baking. Letha was a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau and served as a delegate for Wayne County. As an election worker, she was the presiding judge in her area for many years. She was very involved with her church, serving on many committees over the years. Her faith in Jesus was an important part of her life. Letha was actively involved in the Baughman Homemakers group and introduced many neighbors to the group. She and Don were active members of the Baughman Grange and volunteered countless hours at the annual corn supper and the Wayne County Fair.

The biggest joy of Letha’s life was being a mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her three children, Kathy, Scott, and Doug. She enjoyed raising them and cheering for them in life. Her pride and joy were her four grandsons, Tommy, Drew, Jack, and Max. She shared her passion for sports with them, always talking on the phone at halftime and the end of games to recap her opinion. There was no prouder Grandma or Mom than when her pew at church was filled with family. Other favorite hobbies included playing cards with her friends, traveling in retirement with Don and cheering on the Buckeyes and Indians. She also loved her pets and had many dogs and cats through the years.

She is survived by her loving family: daughter Kathy of Akron, sons Scott (Susan) of Waukee, Iowa and Doug (Christina) of Smithfield, Virginia. Also surviving are her four grandsons: Tommy, Drew, Jack, and Max Shisler of Iowa. Letha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Don, her parents, brothers, sisters-in-law and her beloved Aunt Katie.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to neighbors Phil and Diana Simmons, and the Rohr family for all of their invaluable help and neighborly care to Letha.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022, 3:00 P.M. at the Chapel of the Cross U.M. Church in North Lawrence with Pastor Tom Fish officiating. Burial will be at Newman Creek Cemetery following the service. A meal will follow.

Visitation for friends and relatives will take place at the Chapel two hours prior to the service. The family suggests that donations may be directed to the Chapel of the Cross U.M. Church, North Lawrence, OH 44666 or the Cleveland Clinic Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Road Akron OH in Letha’s memory.
