Obituary for William D. Basinger
William (Bill) D. Basinger, age 60, of Wooster, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. The family will be accepting friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 9:00 - 11:00 am at Oak Grove Mennonite Church. The memorial service celebrating the life of William Basinger will immediately follow in the sanctuary with Pastors Doug and Miriam Zehr officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to: LifeCare Hospice, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, Ohio 446691 in his memory. William was born January 21, 1954, in Wooster to Lloyd and Wilma (Kolb) Basinger. He attended school in Smithville and was a Smithville High School Class of 1972 graduate. William had a passion for cooking and making every event elaborate and memorable. William had been employed as the banquet manager at the Amish Door Restaurant of Wilmot; the Director of Fine Dining at The Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg; the assistant general manager of The Country Pride restaurant located at the TravelCenters of America in Lodi. William was a member of the Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Smithville. William enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, gardening, playing cards and adventurous day trips in his convertible. William will be missed by his siblings; Dean (Kim Appleman) Basinger of Apple Creek, Darwin Basinger of Lady Lake, Florida, Sharon (Leroy) Harper of Massillon, Shirley (John) Puskaric of North Port, Florida and Robert (Diana) Basinger of Wooster, nieces, nephews, church family and friends, and best friend and caregiver, Joyce Egan. William was preceded in death by his parents. The Basinger Family would like to thank the Hospice Staff for the care and support given to William and all of the family.
