Obituary for Wayne W. Horst
Wayne W. Horst, age 88, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon September 21, 2013 at his home after an enjoyable day with family and church friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013, 11:00 AM at the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, 7207 Chippewa Rd. Orrville. Pastor Brad Kelly will be officiating. Burial will be at the East Chippewa Cemetery near Orrville, OH. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, 1 hour before services at the church. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to East Chippewa Church Memorial Fund, 7207 Chippewa Rd.,Orrville, OH 44667 in his memory. He was born July 25,1925 in Sterling to Ivan and Clara (Eberly) Horst and enjoyed being a dairy farmer all his life. Wayne graduated from Smithville High School in 1943. Wayne married the late Emily Rufener June 8,1950 at East Chippewa Church of the Brethren. She died May 9, 2009 after 58 years of marriage. He was a member of East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, serving as a deacon and many other leadership roles over the years. He served as chairman of the Akron Milk Producers and also was a member of the Smithville Ruritan Club. He also served in the U.S. Army as a medic in the Philippines 1944-1946. Surviving are sons Dennis (Shirley) Horst of Smithville, David (Cinda) of Sterling, Dean (Esther) Horst of Sterling, Duane (Bethany) Horst of Smithville. He also had 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who he enjoyed watching in sports and activities; brother Vernon Horst of Wooster, sister Carol Amstutz of Orrville, and special friend Lois Eastwood. His wife Emily, his parents and an infant sister Vesta Mae Horst died previously.
