Obituary for Walter A. Dieter
Walter A. Dieter, age 90, died on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville after a short period of declining health. A private memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster,OH. Pastor Jack Westfall will be officiating. Entombment will be at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster, OH. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to the charity of their choice of the Wayne County Animal Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster, OH 44691 in his memory. He was born September 12, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Jacob and Mary (Blasneger) Dieter. He graduated from Allegheny High School and serve in the Merchant Marine and Coast Guard during WW II having obtained the rank of 3rd assistant engineer. Walter wordked as a conducter on the Pennsylvania Rail Road and the Conrail era until his retirement. He enjoyed working puzzles, old movies, eating good food and watching he beloved Pittsbugh Steelers football team. He also dabbled in oil painting, especially abstarcts and modern art. Surviving him are daughter Arlene (Darryl) Kirschner of Connoquenessing, PA, Carol (Bill) Tumulty of Glenshaw, PA and life mate Sandra Wirth of Orrville, OH, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild. Walter enjoyed life to the fullest living life one day at a time, had a zany sense of humor, would give the shirt off his back if asked, never had a bad word to say and liked to seal the deal with a handshake. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
