Obituary for Vera N. Kurtz
Vera N. Kurtz, age 94, formerly of Smithville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Crown Hill Mennonite Church, 9693 Benner Rd. Rittman, OH 44270. Rev. Thomas Dunn will be officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013, 9 - 11 Am prior to Services at the church. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to the Crown Hill Menn. Church Memorial Fund, 9693 Benner Road, Rittman, OH 44270 or in her memory the Alzheimer's Association, Canton Area Chapter 4815 Munson St. NW,Canton, OH 44718 She was born December 29, 1918 at Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Alpheus and Elnora (Horst) Yoder. She married Irvin C. Kurtz on April 2, 1944 and he preceded her in death in August 1982. Vera worked briefly as a nanny and housekeeper and then worked at Weitzel Dry Cleaning in Wooster. She was a devout Christian and actively participated in the Women's Sewing Circle and was a member of Crown Hill Mennonite Church. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother she worked at Roher Farms during the potato harvest. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great Grandchildren. Surviving are 4 children, Pearl (Clell) Sommers of Plain City, Marvin (Linda) of Ringgold, GA, James (Marcille) of Sarasota, FL and Nancy (Dave) Yoder of Smithville. 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Helen Yoder of Logansport, IN, two brothers Mel (Betty Mae) Yoder of Goshen, IN and Chester (Esther) Yoder of Harrisonburg, VA, two brother-in-laws Emerson Blosser, Goshen, IN and Richard "Dick" Oyer, Goshen, IN. and many nieces and nephews, and great and great - great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are 4 Sisters Stella Blosser, Margaret Oyer, and Luella Leighty, sister and brother-in-law Effie and Lawrence Geisinger and a brother and sister-in-law Ivan and Morrene Yoder.
