Obituary for Sarah E. Simpkins
Sarah E. Simpkins, age 90, died on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011, 2:00 PM at the Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. Rev. Tom Ledford will be officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, OH. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, 12:30 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to the Orrville Christian Church Memorial Fund, 925 N. Elm Street,Orrville, OH 44667 in her memory. She was born March 15, 1921 near New Philadelphia, OH, the daughter of Gilbert and Lavina (Rennicker) Wilson. She married Merlin W. Simpkins on June 02, 1940 in New Philadelphia and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1995. Sarah and her late husband made Orrville their home and had farmed the family farm where they raised their two sons. She had worked outside the home as a cook at Wayne General Hospital in Orrville and retired after 15 years at the Apple Creek State Hospital (Apple Creek Development Center) in 1982. She was a member of the Orrville Christian Church, the Seniors Group, and the Faithful Followers Sunday school class, all of the church. Sarah also was a member of the Cabin Cruisers Camping Club of Canton. Surviving her are sons Sid and Karen Simpkins, Jerry and Mary Ellen Simpkins, all of Orrville, grandchildren, Travis and Amy Simpkins of Littleton CO, Diane and Chad Vance of Orrville, a sister, Mary McCluggage of New Philadelphia and four great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, Merlin W. Simpkins, parents, a sister Erma Sprunger, a brother Earl Wilson and an infant brother Clarence.
