Obituary for Ruth S. Ramseyer
Ruth S. Ramseyer, age 94, died on Wednesday, January 04, 2017at her home in Smithville, Ohio.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 07, 2017, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville. Pastor Doug Zehr will be officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Smithville, OH.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, 3 - 6 PM at Oak Grove Church and Saturday, January 7, 2017, 9:30 - 11:00 AM at the church prior to services. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to Oak Grove Mennonite Church Music Fundor to Bluffton University, 280 W. College Ave. Bluffton, OH 45817 in her memory.


Ruth was born February 17, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA to A. J. and Besse Sprunger Neuenschwander and married Alvin C. Ramseyer, Jr. on November 4, 1945. He died April 16, 2008.
She graduated from Quakertown High School (PA) and from Bluffton College (University) in 1943. She taught home economics for two years at Chester High School and 1.5 years at Wooster High School.
Ruth was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother. She joined the Homemaker's Club, was a Brownie/Girl Scout leader, a 4H adviser, a volunteer at Wooster Community Hospital and at Boys' Village, and was active at Oak Grove Mennonite Church. She taught Sunday school and Bible school, was a committee member and sang in the Messiah and church choirs. She led a bell choir there for several years and attended the monthly women's sewing meetings. She served on the General Conference Women in Mission's Council for several years. Ruth and her husband were also on the church bowling league for many years. She enjoyed having company for meals and overnight.
Sarasota, Florida was Ruth and Al's home for several months for many winters. There they enjoyed walking the beach and being with relatives and friends.
Surviving is her loving family, Ellyne (Harold) Sollenberger of Kendallville, IN, Janis (Daniel) Gingerich of Burton, Donald (Debra) of Smithville, grandchildren and step grandchildren Tricia (Chris) Denton, Matt (Ashley) Sollenberger, Brian (Kristyn) Miller, Christopher Miller, Zach (Nell) Gingerich, Nick Gingerich, Amanda (Ryan) Rango, Adam Ramseyer, Ashley Graser, Amanda Long and Aaron (Chris) Long, great-grandchildren Hannah, Luke, and Spencer Denton, Abbigail and Haley Sollenbberger, Miles Miller, Anya and Raelyn Rango, Fynn Graser, and Remi Long, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband and parents were twin brother Robert, brothers Gordon and Paul and sister Elizabeth.
In the last years of her life she was able to stay in her home, thanks to the help of LuAnn Hartzler and her company, “No Place Like Home.” Our many thanks to the various caregivers who always were kind, gracious, and helpful to Ruth. Thanks also to Hospice for their help.
