Obituary for Ruth M. Kowalczyk
Ruth M. Kowalczyk, age 68 went to be with her Lord and Savior after a period of declining health, on August 25, with her husband and both sons by her side. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Freshwater Community Church, 185 Hunbolt Avenue, Wadsworth, OH. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Cemetery near Marshallville, OH immediately following services. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013, 6 to 8:00 pm at Gresser Funeral Home, Orrville, OH. In lieu flowers, those who would prefer making monetary gifts to help with expenses may send them to Henry Kowalczyk PO Box 552 Smithville, OH 44677. Ruth was born in Orrville, November 11, 1944 to Howard K. Rehm and Edna M. Butzer. She was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1962. Ruth was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Marshallville and most recently attended Freshwater Community Church in Wadsworth. She had worked as a bank teller for more than 14 years at the Marshallville and Orrville branches of Orrville Savings Bank, National City and PNC after working as a bookkeeper for Swift Auto Parts and secretary for Steam Economies. Ruthie grew up on the Rehm Family Homestead with her two sisters, Grace and Ada and her brother Mel. She enjoyed time with family at Sunday dinner after church service each week and as a teenager had lots of fun running around with her neighborhood friends. On November 11, 1975, she married Henry "Sandy" Kowalczyk at St. Michael's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed attending church, singing in the choir and most recently being involved in a women's bible study. She loved music, especially old hymns and modern praise and worship music played at church. Over the years, she helped in different community service projects, such as packing bags of candy for Santa to pass out at Christmas and being involved with various WELCA events through the church. Ruth was also a member of the Orrville Jelly City Breakers. She helped care for a variety of animals on the farm such as llamas, goats, ferrets, big-horned sheep, rheas and cows as well as her favorite little dogs Chi-Chi, Teddy, Frisky and Ginger and her beloved cat, Fluffy. Ruth also enjoyed visiting family and friends, laughing with "her boys" at the kitchen table and attending sporting events, especially her grandchildren's baseball and football games. As her illness progressed and mobility became an issue, it lifted her spirits to watch her grandchildren play at the house and color beside her at the table. They were the light of her life and they loved their "Gramma Gi-Gi". Ruth is survived by her husband Henry (Sandy); two sons Jason (Charity) Kowalczyk of Smithville and Justin Kowalczyk of Dalton; three step-children Tim (Kathleen) Kowalczyk of Wooster, Anita Peyakov of Manchester and Mike (Heather) Kowalczyk of Kenmore; her sister Ada (Bill) Napier of Orrville; brother-in-law Robert Hull of Orrville; her grandchildren Mason, Callie, Maxon and one more grandchild due in November; five step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews Fonda (Tim) Weeman, Missy Peter, Cora (Al) Keener, Scott (Marci) Rehm; and many loving great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Henry and Margaret (Allen) Kowalczyk, sister Grace Gaborsky and brother Melvin Rehm.
