Obituary for Rodney W. Royer
Rodney W. Royer, age 77, died peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland.
A private burial ceremony will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, 6-8 pm at Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm Street in Orrville. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers friends may make a donation to the Orrville Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 17, Orrville, OH 44667 in his memory.
Rod was born on January 27, 1941 in Massillon, Ohio to Karl and Helen (Fath) Royer, who both preceded him in death. Rod is survived by wife, Sharon, of Columbus Ohio, daughter Shelley (Mark) Horn of Columbus, and son Christopher (Marianna) Royer of Naples, Florida, and 2 grandsons, Alec Horn and Andru Royer.
Rod graduated from Orrville High School in 1959, and attended Hiram University for 2 years before serving in the US Army from 1965-1968. He married Sharon Padermos on February 10, 1966. Rod took over his late father’s cattle business, attending weekly livestock auctions in Creston, Farmerstown, and Kidron for many years. You could still find him at Kidron on Thursdays the last 10 years, cracking jokes and making mischief. He loved golf, volleyball, basketball, softball, and fishing, and enjoyed hunting on Saturdays with his good friends Neil Fox, David Fischnick, and Gary Dalessandro. Rod also enjoyed his many, many years of friendship with the Amish community. He was especially proud of his softball diamond and the frequency it was used. Rod was a long-time member of both the Orrville VFW and Orrville Moose Lodge.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Harry R. Horvitz Center for Palliative Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center for their kind end of life care.
