Obituary for Robert L. Gresser
Robert L. Gresser, age 89, died on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 surrounded by his family at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2016, 10:00 AM at the Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. Elmer Baer will be officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Cemetery in Marshallville, OH. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, January 17, 2016, 2 - 4 PM and 6 -8 PM at the funeral home. The family also suggests that in lieu of flowers friends may make a donation to Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club, 820 N. Ella St., PO Box 16, Orrville, OH 44667 or a charity of the donor's choice in his memory. He was born April 16, 1926 in Smithville, Ohio, the son of the late Orie and Ruth (Conrad) Gresser and lived most of his life in Orrville. He married Kathleen Baer on June 24, 1950 and was happily married for over 65 years. Robert graduated from Orrville High School, The Ohio State University and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He, along with his father and currently his son, Jon, are the long time owners of Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville. He was a passionate and active member of the Orrville Exchange Club, joining in September 1961 serving as officer, committed fund raiser, and traveled to the National Convention. He was also a member of the Smithville Ruritan and a 50 year member of the Ohio Association of Funeral Directors. Robert was an avid gardener, a photographer and was a long time member of the Leica Historical Society of America. He and Kathleen shared many trips with the society including traveling to the Leica headquarters in Wetzhar, Germany. Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathleen, are son: Jon (Deb) Gresser of Orrville, and daughters: Joan (Jim ) Gampetro of Buffalo, WY, Jane Frazer of Dublin, OH, Jan (John) Shutway of Urbana, OH; grandchildren: Erin (Gresser) & Michael Downs, Elle (Gresser) & Justin Shumney, John and Jim Gampetro, Jennifer (Gampetro) Graslie, Steven and Lauren Stoelk, Tony, Raymond, and Liza Shutway; and great-grandchildren: Tolin and Jaxon Clark, Luke and Logan Shumney, Hayden, Xander, Marrianna, and Jack Gampetro, and Caleb Graslie.
