Obituary for Patricia A. Markley
Patricia (Patty) Ann Markley, age 93, passed away Tuesday, April 9th at Brennfeld Nursing Center in Orrville after six years of declining health.

She was born in Wooster, OH, on November 7, 1925 to Robert DeHale Bricker and Madge Hanna (Rowe). A graduate of Wooster High School, she attended Wooster Business College to study bookkeeping. She met her husband, Danny Markley, at Snyder Ford Car Dealership in Orrville, where she was working in their office and Danny needed a new car. They married on December 26, 1947.

She and Danny owned and operated Markley’s Jewelry Store for decades in downtown Orrville. They bowled at Orrville Lanes, played euchre with neighbors, and enjoyed Julie-Fe View Country Club. Patty was a true Anglophile with Queen Elizabeth as her teen idol. She collected Royal Doulton figurines and loved British movie stars. Decorating her home and shopping at Jerry Stanford’s clothing store made her happy. She and Danny belonged to a Dancers Club at the American Legion near Canton. Big band music was their favorite. Patty and her friend Helen Shearer were annual attendees at the week-long Cleveland Metropolitan Opera Festival. Marie Lanza was her favorite tenor.

Patricia leaves her only child, Linda (Swartzentruber) Markley, her brother Robert Michael Bricker and wife Sheila (Immel), nieces Julia (Blanford) Swartz, Terry (Kendall) Senn, Sandy (Peterman) Wirth, Bonnie (Peterman) Lee and Janie (Campbell) Miller.

Her husband, Danny, passed away April 15, 2002. Her parents and son-in-law, Galen Swartzentruber, niece, Patti (Kendall) Amstutz and nephew, Ron Blanford preceded her in death.

At Patty’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A private burial will take place at Orrville Cemetery at a time of the family’s choice.

In her honor and because of her love for cats, a donation may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, Brennfeld Nursing Center staff in Orrville, who cared for her with such tenderness and love that a donation could be made to them or Life Care Hospice in Wooster.
