Obituary for Merle W. Arnold
Merle William Arnold, age 90, died on Friday, March 29, 2013 at his home in Orrville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 06, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. Rev. Paula Marbury will be officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, OH with military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, 6 to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to services at Gresser Funeal Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends may make a donation to Orrville Public Library, 230 N. Main Street, Orrville, OH 44667 or Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund 1556 Rex Drive, Orrville, OH 44667. Online expressions and guest book registry are available at the funeral home web page, www.gresserfuneralhome.com. Merle was born June 10, 1922, in Stark County to Elton and Esther (Schmid) Arnold. He lived in the Orrville area after moving from Akron when he was 11 years old and graduated from Orrville High School in 1941. He was united in marriage to Luella F. Hahn on May 25, 1943. She survives. He worked at Sanderson Cyclone Company as a machinist. He was drafted and served in the Army Engineer Light Equipment Company during World War II in both Europe and the Pacific theaters of operation. Merle retired from Westinghouse after 35 years of service. Merle served many positions in Orrville Evangelical & Reformed Church, Grange, and as a 4-H Advisor. He enjoyed the 8:00 worship service of Trinity United Methodist Church. Merle enjoyed gardening and woodworking, but most important to him was his wife of 69 years and his family. Merle helped organize many Arnold and Schmid family reunions and always enjoyed getting together with family. Merle will be deeply missed in his role as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Luella; sons, William (Lakalynn) Arnold, Dean (Linda) Arnold and daughter, Mary Lou (Tim) Longworth of Orrville, daughter, Judy (Jack) Berry of Shreve and son John (Susan) Arnold of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, Dale, Brian, Greg, Nick and Brett Arnold, Jason Berry, Jessica (Steven) Hammond, Kimberly (Justin) Herald, Aaron (Adrianne) and Tom (Janet) Longworth; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kinsi, Kendra and Max Longworth and Jaice Herald. He is also survived by a sister, Mae (Clarence) Curie of Humble, TX, and a brother, Vern (Joanne) Arnold of Fillmore, CA; sisters-in-law, Luisella Arnold of Fillmore, CA, and Lois Arnold of Akron and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald, Dale, Earle and Roy Arnold, and grandchildren Eric and Molly Arnold
