Obituary for Mary E. Horner
Mary E. Horner, age 94, has gone to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 at LifeCare Hospice inWooster.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019, 10:30 AM at the Smithville Mennonite Church, 6097 Akron Rd. Smithville, OH. Rev. Todd Martin will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday August 16, 2019 8:30 -10:30 AM at the church prior to services.
The family suggests that friends may make a donation to Smithville Mennonite Church or LifeCare Hospice of Wooster in her memory.
Mary was born December 5th, 1924, in Orrville, Ohio to Earl A. and Elizabeth (Amstutz) Steiner. Mary was the eldest daughter of 10 siblings. She is survived by her brothers Tilden, Wilbur (Betty), Bruce (Helen), Donald (Ruth), and her sisters Dorothy (Bill) Shoup, and Judith (Willard) Miller. She grew up on a farm outside of Marshallville, Ohio. She married the love of her life, Lester Horner on November 17, 1950 and made her home in Orrville, Ohio. They had a son, Kenneth (Claudia) and a daughter Virginia. Mary dedicated herself to raising her family in a God centered home and loving on her 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was a member and regular attendee of Smithville Mennonite Church where she enjoyed participating in Women of Mission. She made many quilts, including one for each of her grandchildren, worked with plastic canvas, loved challenging herself with jigsaw puzzles and collected over a million stamps for Alliance Stamp Ministry of Fort Myers, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, her brother Clarence Steiner and her sisters Hazel Smucker and Myrtle Zahner.
Her family would like to express their deep appreciation to LifeCare’s staff for the loving, respectful care Mary and they themselves received during her stay.
