Obituary for Marie Gresser
L. Marie (Robert) Gresser, 87, formerly of Smithville died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Smithville-Western Care Center, after a period of declining health. Memorial services will be Tuesday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main St., Orrville, OH with the Rev. Randy Gehres officiating. Private burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to Christ United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 301 N. Main St., Orrville 44667 in her memory. Marie was born Jan. 5, 1924, in rural Apple Creek, the daughter of Samuel A. and Leah (Berg) Robert and married James Gresser on April 22, 1944. He died March 28, 2010. Marie was a 1942 graduate of Smithville High School and was a sales clerk at Freedlanders in Wooster for several years. Marie lived and worked on the family farms while nurturing her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and quilting, creating many full-size quilts plus numerous baby quilts. She was a lifelong member of Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville and served her church in various ways including Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, and working in ladies circles and committees. She was a longtime member of Georgetown Homemakers Club as well as other community groups. Surviving are children, Jeanne (Jim) Tegtmeier of West Salem, Joanne (Larry) Gortner of Wooster, Jacklyn Gresser of Norton, and Irvin (Karen) Gresser of Sterling; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband and parents are a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; sisters Mabel Smucker, Ruth Schrock, Emma Lehman, and brother Glenn Robert.
