Obituary for Margery M. Long
Margery M. Long, age 85, died on Friday, November 01, 2013 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster after a perios of declining health. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 05, 2013, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Orrville, 1830 W. Market St. Orrville, OH 44667. Pastor Dennis Woodruff will be officiating. Burial will be at the Smithville Cemetery in Smithville, OH. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, 1 Hr before services at the church. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1830 W. Market St.,Orrville, OH 44667 in her memory. She was born August 30, 1928 at Orrville, Ohio, the daughter of Forest and Hazel (Starn) Long. Margery attend Orrville schools and graduated Orrville High School in 1946. She then went on to attend Ashland College, graduating ing 1950 and obtained her masters degree in education from Kent State University in 1967. Margery taught elementary school forty years, first in Cambridge and the at Maple Street School for 38 years, retiring in 1990. She also worked part-time at Freedlander's Department Store in the '50 and '60 and at Runion's Furniture in the 1990's. Margery was a devote Christian who loved her Lord and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent, elder, and deacon, choir and on various committees and was a supporter of the mission work in Haiti. She also was a former member of the American Cancer Society, former president of Wayne County Retired Teachers, former member of the Tuesday Book Club, former member of the Wayne County Genealogical Society and a member of the Wooster-Wayne Chapter of DAR. Margery also enjoyed researching her family history, finding and documenting nine ancestors who served as militiamen or patriots during the American Revolutionary War, preserved and displayed over seventy very old family pictures and wrote four family history notebooks. Surviving are a niece Cheryl Long of Orrville and nephew Bob (Pam) Long of Hamilton, Ohio. Also surviving are a great niece Kelley (Arlen) Johnson and great nephew Scott (Rececca) Long of Liberty, Ind. great-great nephews, Christian Johnson and Asher Long, great-great niece, Kaitlyn Johnson, and a sister-in-law, Faith Long, of Orrville. Preceding her in death are her parents, Forest and Hazel, a sister Beulah LaVonne Long, and brother Dale L. Long
