Obituary for Jack R. Daly
Jack R. Daly, age 92 died on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, OH. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville, OH. Pastor Douglas Zehr will be officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Smithville, OH. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, family suggests that friends may make a donation to The Counseling Center, 2285 Benden Drive, Wooster, OH 44691 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County 2525 Back Orrville Rd.,Wooster, OH 44691. He was born October 15, 1918 at Wooster, Ohio, the son of Albert and Mildred (Schultz) Daly and lived his entire life in the Wooster area. He married Doris Smucker Daly on July 12, 1941 and she survives. Jack graduated from Wooster High School and worked at United Steel Fabricators (Crown Steel), retiring in 1980 after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1942 to 1946 as part of the 99th Division of the 324th Medical Battalion. Jack was a member of the Crown Retirees Group and the Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Smithville where he served as a greeter for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, his grandchildren, and doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 68 years and by two children: Susan Daly Buchwalter of Wooster and Nancy (Lee) Smith of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Larry (Cheryl) Buchwalter of Chicago, Jennifer (Patrick) Ginnetti of Rocky River, Staci (Jeff) Gigliotti of Bastrop, Texas and Todd (Kelli) Smith of Arlington, Texas; plus nine great grandchildren: Cameron, Bryce and Taylor Buchwalter; Zachary Curtin; Adrian, Max and Mia Ginnetti; and Gavyn and Libby Smith, along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and a brother, James E. Daly.
