Obituary for Emma 'Ginger' Handwerk
Emma 'Ginger' Handwerk, age 77, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Orrville Pointe in Orrville, Ohio after an 18month period of declining health. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012, 1:00 PM at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville. Pastor Jo Fisher will be officiating. In keeping with Gingers wishes, cremation has take place. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date. The family invites friends and family to a visitation and time of sharing on Saturday October 20, 2012 from 10 AM - 1 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to the Salvation Army of the Wayne - Holmes Mental Health Coalition in her memory. She was born June 21, 1935 in Steubenville, OH, the daughter of Oliver and Edith (Crawford) Morrison. She married Kenneth Handwerk on March 23, 1957 and he survives. Ginger graduated from Green High School in Akron Ohio in 1954 and later graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio in 1955 as a medical laboratory technician in 1955. Her work career included working at Wooster Community Hospital, Dunlap Memorial Hospital, Aultman Hospital and the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center in Wooster. She retired in 1990. Ginger was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Orrville and Wayne County Women's Democratic Association. She enjoyed volunteering and was an active volunteer for the Salvation Army and the Wayne-Holmes Mental Health Coalition. She also served as a board member for the Wayne-Holmes Mental Health Coalition. and received the Service Award from the Wayne-Holmes Mental Health Coalition in 2011. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Handwerk of Orrville,OH , sons, Kelly (Debbie) Handwerk of Orrville, OH, Kim Handwerk of Indianapolis, IN, granddaughters Kiley (Todd) Persinger of Orrville, Jessica Handwerk of Orrville, a great grandson Brycen Persinger of Orrville, brother David (Bobbi) Morrison of Florida , sisters Merrietta Stokes of Maryland and Diane (Bob) Holstein of Massillon, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Edith Morrison, an infant daughter Judith Ann, and sisters; Patty Jones, Carol and Debbie Morrison.
