Obituary for Dorothy M. Lautzenheiser
Dorothy Marie Lautzenheiser, age 89, of East Union Township, died May 3, 2010 at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 08, 2010, 1:00 PM at the East Union Lutheran Church, 7063 East Lincolnway, Wooster, OH 44691. Pastor Robert Moskowitz will be officiating. Burial will be at the East Union Cemetery on East Lincolnway near Wooster, OH. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, 6-8 pm at Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm Street, Orrville. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to the East Union Lutheran Church, 7063 East Lincolnway, Wooster, OH 44691 or the Wayne County Public Library, 304 N. Market Street, Wooster, OH 44691 in her memory. She was born May 8, 1920 to Charles and Daisy (Watters) Krick of East Union and married Herman Lautzenheiser March 8, 1947. Dorothy attended one-room school at Milbourne and Apple Creek Elementary School, graduating from Apple Creek High School in 1938. She was well-read, a lifelong learner, studying music with concert pianist Chester Barris for several terms at the College of Wooster, and learned to read German on her own. She enjoyed working in her own garden for years, passing down plants and seeds and teaching natural ways to raise both vegetables and ornamental flowers and shrubs. Dorothy enjoyed canning and freezing from her own heirloom fruits. She worked briefly as a hospital aide at Exeter, Rhode Island, where her husband had been assigned during his Civilian Public Service. They returned to Wooster to begin their family, and she became a homemaker. She was a member of East Union Lutheran Church, its Missionary Society, and was organist there for many years. She instilled a love for music and books in all her children. Surviving her is husband Herman, children Mary (Jerry Rockwell), Frederick, Elizabeth, Timothy and Peter Lautzenheiser. Preceding her in death are her sisters, Mabel Fouche, Mildred Lautzenheiser, Ruth Gift, and by her son, David.
