Obituary for Donald E. Schrock
Donald E. Schrock, age 95, died on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Compassionate Care Center in Canton, OH Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 03, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville, OH. Reverends Douglas Zehr and Scott Casebeer will be officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery for the family. Friends may call Tuesday, December 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the church. Gresser Funeral Home of Orrville is assisting the family. Box 16,Orrville, OH 44667. Donald was born January 31, 1919 in Orrville to Alvin J. and Mary (Ramseyer) Schrock. He married Harriet Martin on April 9, 1944. She died September 9, 1997. He then married Louise (Smith) Emerson on December 30, 1999. Donald was a 1937 graduate of Smithville High School and a dairy farmer near Smithville until his retirement in 1987. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church where he sang in the choir and was a Stephan Minister. He was a charter member of the Smithville Ruritans, a member of The Gideons International and a Green Township Trustee for 16 years. He sang in Oak Grove's annual presentation of The Messiah and with the Wayne County Choral Union until his early 90's. He was an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity doing every type of work except the finishing work. Donald's legacy to his family is that of servant hood, especially in visitation. As long as he was able, he visited shut-ins, took them to appointments or out for a meal. While living at Brenn-Field, he visited with residents in their rooms. He enjoyed being with family members and commented frequently about how wonderful it was to have a good family. Surviving in addition to his wife Louise are daughters, Marilyn (Fred) Finney, Wooster, Diane (Jim) Hertzler and Sharon (Leonard) Beechy both of Goshen, Indiana and Janet (Bill) Schroeder, Columbus Grove. Also surviving are grandchildren, Steve Finney, Chris (Tammy) Finney, Brian (Tanya) Finney, Laura (Mark) Oyer, Mary (Tristan) Beechy King,Chris (Marjorie) Schroeder, Katie Schroeder, Jenny Alonzo and Melanie Hertzler; step grandchildren Phil (Jessica ) Hertzler, and Randy( Lisa) Hertzler; great grandchildren, Maya, Noah, Ruth, Luke, John, Isaac , Zane, Piper and Emery; step-children, John (Toby) Emerson, Steve (Julie) Emerson, Susette Eaves, Jim (Dianne Morrison) Emerson, many step-grandchildren and step great - grandchildren, brothers Dean (Joy) Schrock and Darrell (Mary Ann) Schrock of Wooster and a sister Laverne (Richard) Redett of Sandusky. His first wife, Harriet, his parents, sisters, Lillian Winkler and Mary Louise Berkey, and a brother, Dale Schrock, died previously. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff members at Brenn-Field Nursing Home, Orrville and Canton Aultman Hospitals and Aultman's Compassionate Care Center for the loving care shown to our father.
