Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville followed by a graveside service at East Chippewa Church of the Brethren. Calling hours will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and one before services at the Gresser Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Royal Family Kids Camp for abused and neglected children % North Bend Church of the Brethren, 24458 Orange Hill Rd / P.O. Box 26; Danville, Ohio 43014 or Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive; Ashland, Ohio 44805. Alta was born September 26, 1911 at Plainview, Texas to parents Joseph and Mary Hartzler. She was a graduate of Smithville High School where she was a member of the girl's basketball team. Before marriage, she worked at the College of Wooster. She was married to Kenneth Conrad on August 8, 1942. They raised their family of four children on a dairy farm northeast of Smithville. She was a member of the Georgetown Homemakers and East Chippewa Church of the Brethren. For the past thirteen years, she has lived with her daughter near Danville, attending North Bend Church. She blessed everyone around her with her positive attitude, dedication, and cheerful smile. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking, and especially children. In later years she especially enjoyed vacation travel with family. The twelve-year tradition of family trips began with her taking 25 family members on a bus trip to her childhood home at the Snyder Settlement near Plainview, Texas. We have been blessed and she will be missed. Surviving are her four children Mary Jo Wittel, Ann (David) Moore, Harmon (Judy) Conrad, Paul (Ruth) Conrad, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, Kenneth, parents, four brothers, and a sister.
