Obituary for Kent P. Smith
Kent P. Smith, age 70, said “Anchors Aweigh” on Sunday, June 4th at his home in Akron. He was surrounded by love and family.

Private interment has taken place at Western Reserve Military Cemetery. A Memorial Mass in his honor will be held on Saturday, June 10th at St. Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Ave., Akron, Ohio at 11:00 AM. Friends may begin calling at 10:00AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Kent’s name to The American Toy Marble Museum or the Summit County Historical Society.


Kent was born in 1947 in Akron, Ohio to Ralph and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1965. He proudly served and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1970.

Kent retired as a Supervisor from BF Goodrich Aerospace Services and again as an Area Supervisor for APCOA Parking Concessions at the Richfield Coliseum. Saving the best for last, Kent spent his later years volunteering at the Summit County Historical Society/Akron History Exhibit at Lock 3 Park where he was awarded for the most volunteer hours ever logged. Kent was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion and the Western Reserve Foreman’s Association.
He will be remembered for his passion, his story telling and his sense of humor.

Left to miss him are his sisters, Michelle Vassel, Georgene (Tom) Broeski, and Marci Neal (Mark Prochaska); his children, James “JES” (Kristen) Smith, Great Grandchildren Charles and Aryana Smith, Daughter Cherene “Cheri” Smith and grandson Michael Monosky. He also leaves behind numerous beloved friends and extended family.
